Research & Digital Development Pty Ltd is an Australian proprietary limited company, registered since 2017 and based in Victoria. It is small by design and deliberate by method.
The company
What we are, stated plainly
We are a software company. We build our own products and take on selected client work, and we fund the work ourselves — the company is founder-owned and has taken no outside investment.
That shapes what we build. Nothing here depends on collecting more data than a feature needs, on holding a customer's material hostage, or on shipping something before it is honest. A company that answers to its own standard can afford to finish things properly.
Our work concentrates in three areas: turning unstructured research material into something a person can act on, handling sensitive material so the people it belongs to keep control of it, and helping groups reach decisions they can stand behind.
How we work
Three commitments that hold across every project
A written engineering standard
Every project follows the same documented rules, with an explicit definition of what "finished" means: the checks pass, the behaviour is verified against the real system, and the work and its reasoning are recorded. Work that skips any of those is not finished, whatever the calendar says.
Artificial intelligence, with the human accountable
We build with AI assistance and we say so plainly. What makes it engineering rather than guesswork is the discipline around it: small reviewable changes, a human answerable for every one, and a written trail explaining why each decision was made.
Change control from the first commit
Nothing reaches a production system without review and an automated check. Every significant action is logged with who did it and when. These are ordinary disciplines in a large organisation; we apply them at our size because the cost of adopting them later is far higher.
Privacy and security
Designed in from the first migration
Privacy work that is added at the end is decoration. Ours is a constraint on the data model, applied before any of it exists:
- Data minimisation. We collect what a feature actually needs. A field that would be nice to have is left out until it has a concrete use.
- Purpose limitation. Material collected for one stated purpose is not repurposed for marketing or profiling.
- Lawful basis at the point of collection. Where a product ingests personal data, the basis for holding it is recorded against the record at the moment it arrives, not reconstructed afterwards.
- Erasure by design. Deletion cascades are designed into the schema from the first migration, so a deletion request can actually be honoured.
- Australian data residency. Personal data stays in Sydney unless there is a documented reason to move it.
Our products are built to the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and to the Australian Privacy Act, and our internal controls — access control, audit logging, encryption in transit and at rest, and change management — are modelled on the Service Organization Control 2 (SOC 2) trust criteria. We are not certified against SOC 2 and do not claim to be; we will pursue certification when a customer requires it, and the controls are already built so that it is possible rather than a rewrite.
